Description
A green race car streaking across the face of the sign gives this Shell piece real speed. This vintage Shell Gasoline porcelain sign features the Green Streak race car and driver in the center, with “Race Track Tested” wings at the top, bold red Shell lettering across the top and Gasoline along the bottom, on a bright yellow 11 3/4″ round face.
Shell got its name from Marcus Samuel’s London business selling seashells, and the bright red and yellow Shell emblem became a familiar sight at service stations worldwide. Racing has always been a great way to sell gasoline, and the Green Streak name and race car make that point loud and clear. This sign is real porcelain, made with glass enamel fired onto heavy gauge steel in a classic old design, for a hard, glossy finish built to last. It’s a great piece for a garage, a race shop or a Shell collection.
