Description
Nothing says speed like an open-wheel race car tearing across the top of a sign. This vintage Mobiloil porcelain sign features a classic race car and driver on top, bold Mobiloil lettering with the red Gargoyle, and “Recommended for All Race Engines” with Vacuum Oil Company Ltd. below, in vibrant colors on an 11 3/4″ x 6 3/4″ panel.
The Vacuum Oil Company was founded in Rochester, New York, in 1866, and its Gargoyle trademark and Mobiloil motor oil became well known to drivers and racers alike. Vacuum later joined with Socony, and the company grew into Mobil, home of the famous flying red horse. This sign is real porcelain, made with glass enamel fired onto heavy gauge steel for a glossy finish built to last. It’s a great piece for a garage, a race shop or a collection of gas and oil signs.
