Description
A smiling attendant tipping his cap was the welcome every traveler hoped for on a long stretch of Route 66. This vintage Shell Gasoline porcelain sign is cut in the shape of a Route 66 highway shield, with Route 66 across the top, a Shell attendant in his cap and uniform, a Shell service station behind him and the red and yellow Shell emblem, in black, yellow and red on an 11 1/2″ x 11″ panel with amazing gloss.
Route 66 opened in 1926 and ran about 2,400 miles from Chicago to Santa Monica, and Shell stations along the way kept travelers fueled up. Full-service attendants checked the oil, washed the windshield and pumped the gas. This sign is real porcelain, made with glass enamel fired onto metal in a classic old design, for a glossy, durable finish made to last. It’s a great piece for a garage, a shop or a Route 66 collection.
