Description
A campfire under a towering granite peak is the reward at the end of a long mountain drive. This vintage Shell Gasoline porcelain sign features a yellow touring car parked by a campfire with two campers, pines, an eagle and a blue mountain against a yellow sky, with “Quick Starting”, bold red Shell Gasoline lettering, “for enduring power” and the Shell emblem, on an 11 3/4″ round face.
Shell got its name from Marcus Samuel’s London business selling seashells, and its red and yellow emblem became a familiar sight at service stations across the West. A Yosemite camping trip was the kind of drive that put a gasoline to the test. This sign is real porcelain, made with glass enamel fired onto heavy gauge steel in a classic old design, for a hard, glossy finish built to last. It’s a great piece for a garage, a cabin, a national park collection or a Shell collection.
